How can I pay for a purchase later with TWINT?
With TWINT, you can now pay for your purchases from selected merchants at a later date. The ability to select whether you want to pay for your purchase straight away or in 30 days means that you have greater flexibility.
To use this function, you must be over the age of majority (18 years old and above) and be a resident of Switzerland. If you use a TWINT app other than the TWINT Prepaid app, additional conditions may apply.
How it works:
- If you make a purchase from a merchant with whom you can pay for the purchase you made with TWINT at a later point in time, you can select whether you want to pay for your purchase straight away or in 30 days’ time in your TWINT app, provided that you meet the aforementioned requirements for this function.
- The first time you use this option, you will need to register with our partner Swissbilling. Depending on the TWINT app, tap the profile icon in the top right or top left corner and then tap ‘Pay later’ under ‘Payment settings’. Then follow the on-screen instructions.
- Based on your registration details, Swissbilling checks to determine whether the purchase can be carried out successfully. Should the check return a positive result, you will immediately receive confirmation in your TWINT app. If something goes wrong with this check, you will still have the option to pay for your purchase immediately via TWINT. You will also be subsequently sent an e-mail by Swissbilling, notifying you of the reasons why the check returned a negative result.
- By activating automated payments, the amount owed for your purchases will be automatically charged to your TWINT account on the due date. This requires that your TWINT account contains sufficient funds on this date.
- If you have not activated automated payments, you will receive a notification a few days before the due date stating that the payment will be due shortly. To receive these notifications, make sure that you have activated push notifications for the TWINT app on your smartphone. To initiate the payment, please follow these instructions.
Whether costs will be incurred for the buyer for using this service in the TWINT app depends on whether the merchant bears these costs or not. If the merchant does not in fact bear the costs, fees will be charged to the buyer depending on how large the purchase amount is. The exact amount will be displayed in the app once the “Pay later” option has been selected for a payment. A detailed list of the fees can be found in the “Fees” section of the Swissbilling GTC.
If you would no longer like to have the option to have pay later displayed to you, you can deactivate this service by following the instructions set out here.
