TWINT makes Switzerland’s payment infrastructure more independent

Switzerland twinted like never before in 2025. With 901 million transactions and more than 6 million users, TWINT has become an integral part of everyday life. It has evolved from a pure payment app to a digital platform that offers innovative solutions for all. As a result, TWINT is strengthening Switzerland’s digital sovereignty and helping to ensure independence from global tech giants.

2025 saw TWINT pass several important milestones that further increased the benefits for consumers and merchants alike:

  • More than 901 million transactions, carried out by more than 6 million active users.
  • Exclusive presale service for concert tickets with Live Nation Switzerland: thanks to TWINT Prio Tickets, users can secure their concert tickets ahead of everyone else in 2026 too, before they go on general sale.
  • The TWINT Business Portal app gives merchants full control over transactions and turnover, anywhere and at any time.
  • With TWINT Express Checkout, customers can make payments quickly and easily when shopping online. The delivery address is automatically transferred from the TWINT app, so there is no need to enter it manually. This saves time and reduces errors, ensuring a seamless shopping experience.
  • The TWINT payment link offers a flexible alternative to QR codes. Merchants can easily send payment links to customers via email, WhatsApp or newsletter to enable secure payment with TWINT.

These innovations create a faster, more convenient payment experience for app users and help merchants make their processes more efficient and cost-conscious.

TWINT continues to drive the modernisation of existing systems. It has already made everyday life significantly easier with numerous functions, from buying tickets to mobility. Building on this, TWINT is set to make paying invoices as easy as carrying out a purchase at the cash register or in an online shop. TWINT invoice is a fully digital solution for QR bills that replaces bureaucracy with simplicity – and makes sifting through piles of paper a thing of the past. With TWINT invoice, users have access to a seamless, secure, digital process directly in the TWINT app. And that’s just the beginning: the introduction of TWINT direct debit will mark an important step in replacing the traditional direct debit procedure with a modern, efficient and reliable alternative for recurring payments.

Markus Kilb, CEO of TWINT, emphasises the importance of these innovations: “2025 was a year of innovation and growth. We have made everyday life easier for people in Switzerland with a variety of functions. Having simplified payments in traditional retail stores and ecommerce, we aim to do the same in 2026 for paper-intensive processes such as invoicing, with TWINT invoice and TWINT direct debit. TWINT is more than just a payment app today – we’re a platform for daily digital life. In turbulent times like these on the world stage, it’s even more important that Switzerland’s payment infrastructure remains independent. In this sense, TWINT also offers users and retailers in Switzerland a degree of digital sovereignty.”

Strengthening digital sovereignty also means giving Swiss payment providers full access to all technical interfaces for digital payments. TWINT therefore welcomes the fact that COMCO is examining Apple’s approach to the use of the NFC interface on Apple devices in more detail as part of a preliminary investigation. TWINT is committed to ensuring that this core technology is available to all providers – and is not restricted by exclusive access or financial and technical barriers. Fair access to NFC is the only way to ensure that consumers have genuine freedom of choice and that digital payments in Switzerland remain innovative and competitive.

TWINT is steadfastly committed to promoting Switzerland’s digital sovereignty. Looking ahead, the company will continue to expand its ecosystem with even more straightforward payment options, innovative merchant solutions and new features designed to simplify everyday life. The goal remains clear: simplicity, security and a seamless user experience for everyone. By pursuing this goal, TWINT is strengthening the digital independence of Swiss payment transactions in the long term and cementing its place as a key driver of Switzerland’s digital future.
