TWINT is expanding its role as Switzerland’s leading payment app by starting the dialogue to open its platform to new digital applications in the fields of digital currencies and identity solutions. With this step, the company aims to actively support the innovative, sovereign and resilient development of the Swiss financial ecosystem.
With over six million users, TWINT has become the payment app for everyday life in Switzerland – from payments at the checkout or in online shops to splitting restaurant bills. In the future, providers of regulated digital currencies, such as a Swiss franc-backed stablecoin or tokenised deposits, as well as developers of solutions related to Switzerland’s new electronic ID (E-ID), will be able to make use of TWINT’s proven infrastructure.
«TWINT stands for secure, simple and innovative payment solutions. By starting the dialogue to open our platform for regulated and trusted digital assets like CHF Stablecoins, tokenised deposits and the E-ID, we are contributing to the strengthening of Switzerland’s digital sovereignty in everyday life,» says Markus Kilb, CEO of TWINT.
This initiative comes at a time when Switzerland is setting important directions for the digitalisation of finance and identity through the introduction of the E-ID and the current debate around stablecoins. TWINT offers its reliable and trusted digital app ecosystem as a practical platform for these innovations.
The option to develop use cases connected to regulated Stablecoins, tokenised deposits and the E-ID in the future further expands TWINT’s ecosystem and value for users. An exchange with government, regulatory bodies and market participants will be initiated, forming the basis for an offer that is attractive for consumers and merchants. Users will remain free to choose which services they wish to access via TWINT. With this step, TWINT is contributing to an open, secure and forward-looking digital ecosystem in Switzerland.
Through the digital simplification of everyday life across a wide range of use cases, TWINT has long been used by the Swiss population for more than just payments. “Twinting” has established itself as a verb used in everyday language, and TWINT has become a highly valued brand for many people in Switzerland. Numerous independent studies on brand popularity confirm this – most recently the Brand Asset Valuator, one of the world’s most comprehensive brand studies. In its March 2025 edition, TWINT was named Switzerland’s strongest brand.
