How do I split an amount between friends?

The ‘Split’ function allows you to split amounts between yourself and other TWINT users. This function will be available for all TWINT prepaid users soon.

Let’s assume you would like to split CHF 100 equally with four other TWINT users: this function would divide CHF 100 into 5 payments (for you and your four contacts). Your four contacts will subsequently each be sent a payment request for CHF 20. You will pay the last CHF 20 yourself. You will then receive CHF 80, provided that all four of your contacts accept the payment request.

You can select the function either via the ‘Request and split’ button on your home screen, or by tapping the already executed payment under ‘Statement entries’ and then tapping the ‘Split this payment’ button in the details that are displayed underneath.

Via the ‘Request and split’ button on the home screen:

  • Tap the ‘Request and split’ button on your home screen.
  • Now tap the ‘Split amount’ option in the top-right-hand corner.
  • Enter the amount to be split.
  • Enter a title. The recipients will see this title as a message in the transaction.
  • Select the contacts with whom you want to split the amount in question.
  • The amount will be split equally by default. You can also set the way in which the costs are to be split by entering it manually. Alternatively, why not try shaking your smartphone and see what happens next?

Via the ‘Split this payment’ button in the payment details for an already executed payment

  • Tap on the ‘Statement entries’ button on your home screen.
  • In the details for the payment to be split that are displayed below, tap the ‘Split this payment’ button.

This function is currently only available in the TWINT prepaid app and is expected to be made available for other TWINT apps in the third or fourth quarter of 2021.
