What do apéros and TWINT have in common?

An apéro is as typically Swiss as TWINT.

For many, enjoying an apéro with colleagues after work or with friends before dinner is a key part of the Swiss lifestyle. This is especially true during the summer months, when you’re sitting outside and enjoying a drink with your favourite people and sharing stories and laughter over a little bite to eat. An ever-increasing number of apéro spots now accept TWINT. So next time you’re out sharing an apéro with your favourite people, make sure to pay quickly and easily with TWINT, too.

3 good reasons to pay with TWINT in bars, at food trucks and in restaurants

  1. Pay simply: You always have your smartphone and TWINT app with you. That’s all you need to pay at your favourite bar, food truck or pizzeria with just a tap of the finger.
  2. Pay quickly: Open the TWINT app, scan the QR code on the payment terminal or the QR code sticker, confirm the amount and you’re done. It’s even faster with the TWINT widget for iOS or the TWINT tile for Android.
  3. Pay for everyone: With TWINT, you can skip splitting the bill. Pay for everyone and then request their share in the TWINT app. It’s fast – and you don’t have to chase after your money.

For you as a guest, it doesn’t matter whether a bar, food truck or restaurant accepts TWINT via a payment terminal or a TWINT QR code sticker. And at businesses that use a scan-order-pay solution, such as Pindot or Yoordi, you can place your order independently at the table and pay with TWINT without having to download an app or register.

How to split a bar or restaurant bill with TWINT

With the practical splitting function, you can, for example, easily and very conveniently split a restaurant bill with your friends:

Split restaurant bill

step 1 icon

Depending on your TWINT app, either tap “Split” or “Request and split”. *

Enter the total amount and select all contacts who should send you money.

The amount will be split evenly. Of course, you can also adjust the individual amounts.

Fun fact: in many TWINT apps, you can let fate decide who pays what. For example, in the TWINT prepaid app. Simply shake your smartphone instead of entering the amount – and you’re done.

* You can also split the bill later. Select the payment from the transaction overview and tap “Split this payment” or “Split this amount”.

Where can you pay with TWINT?

Many bars, food trucks, snack bars, pop-ups and restaurants accept TWINT. Keep an eye out for TWINT QR code stickers or a QR code on the payment terminal display. If you’re not sure, ask a member of staff whether TWINT is accepted before paying.

Your favourite bar or restaurant doesn’t accept TWINT yet? Send an e-mail to [email protected] – we’ll check whether we can change that for you.
