The TWINT App can now also be used to pay parking fees at 80 parking meters, corresponding to some 2,000 parking spaces in Yverdon-les-Bains. To do so, all that is needed is to open the TWINT app, scan the QR code on the parking meter, enter their car registration number on a one-time basis and select the desired parking period in the app. The fee is then paid via TWINT and debited directly from the registered account or credit card. Those who leave their parking space earlier than planned can have the remaining amount reimbursed via the TWINT app.
This innovative solution is the result of the partnership between TWINT and Digitalparking, the Swiss specialist in car park management. “In TWINT, we have found a strong partner. By the end of 2019, Digitalparking will have launched the solution in half of Switzerland’s major towns and cities”, says Reto Schläpfer, Managing Director of Digitalparking.
Since the launch in Zug last summer, cities such as St.Gallen, Frauenfeld and Rapperswil-Jona have started offering TWINT for parking fee payments. Throughout Switzerland, around 30,000 parking spaces are now equipped with this option.
Town Councillor Valérie Jaggi Wepf, the Head of the Public Safety department of the municipality of Yverdon-les-Bains, stresses that “An easy way to pay parking fees using a smartphone is a simplification that is in line with current lifestyles. The municipality is thrilled to be able to offer this supplementary service to the inhabitants of Yverdon-les-Bains and its visitors.”
Markus Kilb, CEO of TWINT, adds that: “TWINT is Switzerland's digital cash. The simple act of paying parking fees without the hassle of having to find change is particularly convincing.”
