What are the top-up and purchase limits for TWINT prepaid?

Account balance and transfers

Due to the regulatory requirements set by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA), a maximum amount of CHF 3000 is permitted to be available in a TWINT prepaid account. Top-ups and incoming payments that would cause this limit to be exceeded are not permitted and will be cancelled.

There is a limit of CHF 5000 per year for payments/transfers made from the TWINT prepaid app to bank accounts in the user’s name.

Incoming payment limits (total)

Users aged 12 to 14 can receive or top up a maximum total of CHF 100 per month.

Users aged 15 to 17 can receive or top up a maximum total of CHF 500 per month.

Users aged 18 and over can receive or top up a maximum total of CHF 10,000 per month. The account balance limit, the P2P incoming payment limit for money transfers between TWINT users and the credit code limit must not be exceeded. For example: with an initial starting account balance of CHF 0, these users can theoretically top up CHF 3000 within a single month, spend this money and then top up another CHF 3000 in the same month.

Money transfers between TWINT users

The sending and receiving of money between TWINT users (referred to as P2P payments) are also subject to set limits that are dependent on whether their place of residence is in Switzerland or abroad.

Users whose place of residence is in Switzerland:

A maximum of CHF 1000 can be sent to other users each month, with the maximum amount that can be sent per year being CHF 5000.

A maximum of CHF 1000 can be received from other users each month, with the maximum amount that can be received per year being CHF 5000, taking into account the incoming payment limits (total) for the respective age groups and the account balance limit.

Users whose place of residence is abroad:

A maximum of CHF 500 can be sent to other users each month, with the maximum amount that can be sent per year being CHF 3000.

A maximum of CHF 500 can be received from other users each month, with the maximum amount that can be received per year being CHF 3000, taking into account the incoming payment limits (total) for the respective age groups and the account balance limit.
